Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Newly Wed!! I traveled to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic to marry the love of my life! Proud owner of a rescued Yorkie, Sadie. Kindergarten teacher teaching to change one child’s life. Graduate student hoping to learn more to make more of a difference. Thanksgiving dinner is my favorite meal of the year…yes I wait 364 days for the best meal. I love Christmas and decorating for Christmas. I love to dance…even in Walgreens when I hear a good song!
When did you start running?
I started running when I was in college! I would go to the gym and run with Rachel Woods, I really just used it as an outlet to escape stress…..college didn’t always hand me the best of times…and running worked wonders.
What was your most memorable race?
My first half marathon, OKC Memorial Marathon. I worked at Allegiance Credit Union previously known as Federal Employees CU…..brief history…..FECU was an office in the Murrah Building which was destroyed in the April 19, 1995 bombing. A few of the women I worked with were in the building working when the bombing happened. One of those women, Amy Downs was in a weight loss battle and decided to get as many people together to run the race. I gave in and signed up. We trained together and ran together. Running with those affected by such a tragedy was such an inspiration.
What is your running diet?
Hmmmm well I’m not quit sure. I try to eat healthier! I don’t really have any certain diet I follow.
What do you listen to when you run?
I listen to pop and rap when I am really feeling it! When I feel like I can’t make it any farther I list to Hillsong Radio!!!! I know the Lord gives me wings and more air to make it.
When was your running “breakthrough?”
I haven’t had this “breakthrough” all the others talk about. I just keep running because it is something I can do that I only have to compete with myself. I like to see how far I can push myself. I have this weird love hate relationship with running. I really hate running but can’t stop doing it! (Hate may be a strong word)
What kind of cross-training are you doing?
I will do some Yoga and other such work outs on my Wii in my living room!
What are you passionate about?
EDUCATION and CHILDREN. I always have said when I grow up I want to save all the hurting children and make sure they learn how to read.
What is your favorite thing to eat before & after a long run?
Before- A banana and a waffle with peanut butter on top!
After- Lots of carbs….Usually a big baked potato and sweet tea!
What training plan are you using?
I am using the Hal Higdon Half Marathon Novice 2 Training App.
How many half-marathons have you participated in?
Two. Both the OKC Memorial Half Marathon.
