Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hi, my name is Nicole Calvert. I am currently a Registered Dental Hygienist working at a family dental office in Edmond, Oklahoma. If I’m not helping people achieve healthy smiles you can find me running, curling up with a good novel, spending time with my wonderful family, friends, and fiancè, or cheering on the Oklahoma Sooners or the Thunder Basketball Team!
When did you start running?
I have been running since I was in elementary school, starting with one mile fun runs, and eventually working my way up. In high school I ran track all 4 years, and qualified for state every year in the 400m dash. I didn’t start running long distance until after high school, and I am still working on improving my long distance running. Lately I have enjoyed running 5k’s and a few 10k’s.
What do you listen to when you run? (If you listen to anything at all)
Music keeps me going when running long distances, and I love anything fun and upbeat! My playlist consist of mostly hip hop, with a few Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert songs throw in (for girl power motivation of course!)
What kind of cross-training are you doing?
Besides my half marathon training, I also participate in a bootcamp class that meets twice a week. I also try to do resistance/weight training a couple times a week if possible. I love living a healthy lifestyle, and eating healthy and staying active is very important to me!
What training plan are you using?
I use the Hal Higdon half marathon training plan. I used this plan for my first half and plan to use it again for this race’s training.
What else is going on in your life at the moment?
Beyond training for the Austin half, my fiancè and I are currently busy planning our wedding, which will be this June!
How many half-marathons have you participated in?
This will be my first one!
What will your blog posts be centered on?
As this will be my first half marathon I will mostly center my posts on my progress and what I find challenging and rewarding with training. Time management will definitely be a challenge with planning a wedding in the meantime, and I’m sure My posts will include some exciting and frustrating moments along the way!
